Forget It - Sixto Rodriguez's Original and Paolo Nutini's Cover

A lot of years ago, after watching the movie 'Searching for Sugarman,' I quickly put together a video which got a lot of views on YouTube which was not my goal at all. A lot of years have passed and along the way I had noticed how a famous Scottish singer Paolo Nutini acknowledged, pretty much unknown to folks outside South Africa, Sixto Rodriguez on his live shows and on quite a few occasions would end his show with his cover of Sixto's 'Thank you'. I had wanted to highlight this for a while but I never got around to it until recently. A compilation of  Sixto and Paolo's images with their versions of 'Thank you' is available here now in this YT video:

My older post (quite a few years ago) on Sixto Rodriguez's live performance of 'I'm gonna live until I die' is here: https://sthamba.blogspot.com/2012/11/sixto-rodriguez.html

Flower in a vase on a stool

Freedom

Do the deeds have meaning?

If I laze around,

 read poetry

watch movies

scroll through

    Instagram posts

sip coffee and

listen to music and books,

do deeds create good karma?

Deeds with no desire and no fear.

No attachment to the paycheck,

except perhaps the guilt

    of lack thereof.

Does the guilt alone take away

 the goodness of it?

Does freedom need an anchor?

Sorrows I Invent

Reference

The day my life-water rises to joyful level

I will spill some happiness out to the world.

For now I am doing my best to soak in the sorrows

--the sorrows I invent and make-believe.
